Acupressure can also be described as "acupuncture without needles."
It is based on the concept of qi which means "life energy."
The qi flows through channels within the body known as meridians.
Instead of needles, the practitioner uses his or her fingers and thumb to apply pressure to these acupoints along the meridians of the body.
